"I was introduced to Core Fitness at the end of July 2007. I met Matt while helping out with their July 4th parade float, where basically, I was the "before" guy. And let's be honest, "I was the before guy". I am 5 foot 9 inches, 46 years old and weighed 265 lbs.; undergoing treatment for back problems that affected my ability to walk. During my initial baseline test, I was able to do only a few pushups.

I started working out under the guidance of a trainer with nervous expectations, not really sure where "working with a trainer" was going to take me. Let me be very direct. "I initially began personal training at Core Fitness six months ago. I had been receiving personal training for a year prior at a local gym but I wasn't happy with the services. I didn't' know what was wrong exactly, but I knew something was missing. I was introduced to Matt through a networking meeting and was drawn to him because he seemed to have a lot of knowledge about health and wellness, and appeared to be living a healthy lifestyle himself. "Before I started working out and eating right I could hardly walk without sweating profusely. I could barely climb stairs without holding onto the railing, and my leg was in constant pain. Lying in bed at night, I felt like I was going to drown from the fluid I could hear rattling in my chest. I always had migraine headaches, my feet were swollen and I could barely find anything to fit me, even at Lane Bryant. I wore sweat pants all the time and they were even skin tight. I felt as if I was invisible. I didn't want to go out in public unless I had to because people would just stare at me in disgust. Being morbidly obese, when I would interview for jobs I would get turned down, even though I knew I was qualified. I even went to a plastic surgeon, but got denied and was told to come back after I lost 150 lbs. I even considered gastric bypass surgery. I was depressed, desperate, and crying out for help.

"I was referred to Core Fitness by my chiropractor. I had re-injured my neck in October 2006 and was seeing my primary care physician and chiropractor on a regular basis for acute pain. By the time I began training in January 2007 the pain had subsided somewhat, but was still chronic.

From the outset, Core has demonstrated knowledge of muscle and tendon behavior and their responses to physical training. They have demonstrated through our conversations and through the results I have experienced an understanding of the correct way to approach physical training without injury. Core approaches my training program with a great deal of attention to detail. They write out each session's exercise routine in advance and notes the number of repetitions and amount of resistance for each exercise. They then use that information to plan the next session.

Throughout my training with Core to date, they have used a variety of exercises to address specific muscles and muscle groups. They note which exercises tend to be the most effective for me. My training program is a complete body program and includes strengthening, flexibility and balance. Each session builds on the last session, increasing the resistance and the overall level of difficulty.

I have experienced excellent results since beginning the training program. My neck pain has reduced significantly, I have increased strength and endurance, and I generally feel much better than when I began. I definitely regard my investment of time and money in this training program to be worthwhile."

"I sustained a serious back and neck injury after being thrown from a horse 12 years ago. Ever since my injury , I digressed from an active person, who regularly went horseback riding, played vigorous sports such as platform tennis and tennis and I also ran, to a person who rarely, if ever, dared to push myself past the low impact workout zone. Whenever I overexerted myself - physically or mentally - I suffered from migraines and muscle aches. Ultimately, even yoga caused me pain.

To be honest, I was doubtful Matt could help me. I even warned him at the onset of our sessions that all I cared about was getting through each session without pain. Six weeks later, I am still "a work in progress," but I am amazed by my increased strength, endurance and mobility. Through his care plan, I have achieved a level of fitness I thought was truly forever lost to me. "A buddy from work mentioned he started sessions at Core Fitness. I could motivate myself to do cardio, but I generally felt too uncomfortable to go to the gym for strength training. I was a little self conscious about being so weak and not knowing where to start. I thought taking sessions with Core Fitness would be exactly what I needed. I had so little muscle that my joints and ligaments made some exercises uncomfortable. Matt was excellent at making immediate adjustments so I could perform the exercises.

Every session is always a different workout. It's so easy to just "show up" and watch my body transform. I've never been stronger in my life. I love the way my back and arms look and feel. Small tasks in life are easier and place less strain on my back and neck now that I am stronger. I feel the workout program is very balanced and focuses on the entire body, since there is so much diversity in the individual exercises.

"My wife and I joined about 8 months. I initially started on my own but was so impressed with the fact that exercising could actually be fun that I got my wife to join too. "I am not an easy client for Core, due to several health issues. We started working together two years after a biking accident, which caused a painful injury to my neck, hip and right shoulder. I also suffer from migraine headaches and fibromyalgia, which makes it difficult to do hard, heavy workouts or to work out for long periods of time.

Core understands my physical limitations, but does not allow them to get in the way of challenging me to do the best. They alter my program as needed to meet my goals, to protect the painful areas of my body and to strengthen muscles that will help me to regain and maintain a better level of health.

"Never considered "thin" while growing up, I was more likely to be called "big boned" and I've always been conscious and critical of my weight. After looking through a women's fitness magazine on my honeymoon, I made a comment to my husband about wanting to get in shape and look like this really fit girl I saw in the magazine. After his, "then do it" reply, I decided to talk to a trainer after we got back from our trip. My trainer really encouraged me and informed me of some competitions coming up. I was now on a mission! "I have to be honest and say that it is an awesome work out.  It is the type that makes you feel like ‘why am I doing this to myself’ at the time but as soon as it is over I am so glad I did it and feel great…It is the perfect combination of cardio and light weight training.  Matt pushes you but also lets you know you need to know your limits!!  It is usually that extra push that makes me run the extra lap that if I were by myself I would just walk it.  The group of people help a ton also, always encouraging one another and though it is an intense workout we definitely can laugh (even if Matt tells us to focus, I think he knows it shows we enjoy what we are doing).  I definitely have a lot more energy than before and can do a lot more than I could 4 weeks ago and I have worked with a different trainer for some time before the boot camp.  I would encourage anyone to join in it and challenge themselves!!"

I first want to say Thank you for taking the time to put a program like this together. It has helped me push through the tough times where I just wanted to quit. This program has taught me not only that exercise makes you stronger, but it has also taught me mental strength, nutrition, confidence, determination and much more! The group size is perfect! With this size of group, it allows all of us to get up close and personal and provide encouragement to one another to make it through each workout. I like the fact that every time we show up we have a different routine...it keeps things interesting!

After just 3 weeks of attending the boot camp I have already started to notice changes to my body.  Not only am I feeling better, I have a lot more energy, which has given me that boost to do even more.  I have noticed a huge difference in how my clothes fit.  I feel that I am walking taller since my core is getting stronger, along with everything else too!

What can I say but...Thank you.  Thank you for always being here for me, pushing me when I need it most.  You really live up to your motto of motivating, inspiring and achieving.  Thank you for teaching me to dig deep and helping me to realize that I have things inside of me I never knew I had, like the strength to get through one of your butt kicking beach boot camp workouts(lost three pounds in the first week), a back bone to stand up for myself and most important...confidence.  Confidence in myself and the confidence to succeed.
